Island View Schoolhouse is a beautiful black and white image of a historic one room school in Seymour, TN.

The story behind the image:

The Island View Schoolhouse sits in a cow pasture along Boyd's Creek Rd. The school was built in 1917 on 2 acres of donated land. Students from 1st to 8th grade attended the school many of them walking several miles to get there. Thirty five to forty children would be taught under one roof. The school remained open until 1949. In recent years, Dr. Sam Lyle, whose grandfather donated the land for the school, has been restoring the building. [Reference: Sims, Elizabeth. "Abandoned Places: Island View School. WBIR.com. 19 May  2019, www.wbir.com/article/entertainment/places/abandoned-places/abandoned-places-island-view-school/]

For many years, my father-n-law encouraged me to get pictures of the schoolhouse. On the day I took this image the lighting and clouds were a perfect complement to the building. The rich contrast of shapes, colors, and textures create a great b&w. Not long after I took the image, the bell in the tower fell. I was very glad to hear that the building was being restored, and I attended the open house where I was able to meet former students.

The goal of my photography is to capture a moment in time, and to share with the viewer the beauty that I observed. My images are single images. I use a program called Lightroom to process my RAW image to prepare them for printing. The image is then printed in the USA on metal or archival quality professional photo paper which is mounted and coated for durability. All images are copyright protected and reproduction in any format is strictly prohibited.
